From the foothills of Mount Kenya, just outside the town of Karatina on the border of Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties, comes this beautifully expressive coffee from Thunguri Factory. Crisp, juicy and wonderfully vibrant, it showcases the bright citrus character and refined sweetness for which Kenyan coffees are so highly regarded.

Thunguri is one of nine washing stations operated by the Kibirigwi Farmers Cooperative Society, established in 1953 and now representing almost 6,900 active smallholder farmers. Together, these producers cultivate coffee in the region's rich volcanic soils, where favourable growing conditions and generations of farming knowledge contribute to exceptional quality.

During harvest, only ripe cherries are carefully handpicked and delivered to the washing station on the same day. Following sorting and pulping, the coffee undergoes fermentation for up to 18 hours before being thoroughly washed using fresh water from the nearby Kangocho Stream and carefully dried. This traditional washed process brings clarity and definition to the cup, allowing the distinctive qualities of the SL28, K7, Ruiru 11 and Batian varieties to shine.

The result is a lively and refreshing coffee, bursting with juicy mandarin, yellow grapefruit and fragrant orange zest. Bright citrus acidity is complemented by a lovely underlying sweetness, creating a clean, balanced and beautifully structured cup.
