Located in Bunyangabu in Western Uganda, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, this coffee comes from a region of rich volcanic soils and diverse terrain, well suited to producing coffees with clarity and sweetness.

Around 3,500 smallholder farmers grow coffee on the surrounding hills at 1,300 – 1,600 masl, delivering ripe cherry to Bunyangabu Washing Station. After careful sorting, the cherries are pulped and fermented for 40–42 hours in a 2% salt solution made using salt from nearby Lake Katwe. The parchment is then washed and sun-dried on raised beds for 18–24 days, with frequent raking and careful hand-sorting throughout the drying process.

This coffee is a washed coffee, but it uses a lactic fermentation, adding another layer of complexity while maintaining the clean character of a washed coffee.

Bunyangabu Washing Station is part of a partnership between Sucafina NV and UGACOF, working closely with local farmers to create greater opportunities through specialty coffee. By connecting producers with premium markets and supporting sustainable farming practices, the partnership aims to improve yields, strengthen production and support farmers in developing their farming practices.

In the cup, expect a smooth and balanced profile, with notes of vanilla, lime splice and toffee. Fresh and sweet with a clean, lingering finish.
