High in the mountains of San Agustín, Huila, overlooking the Magdalena River, Finca Las Juntas is where Yamile Muñoz has returned to continue her family's long connection with coffee.

The farm was first owned by Yamile's grandfather before being passed down to her father. Although she grew up surrounded by coffee, Yamile eventually left for Bogotá in search of new opportunities. Seven years ago, she chose to return, drawn back by her roots and by the opportunity to raise her child in the place that had shaped her.

Since coming home, Yamile has worked alongside her mother to build a stronger future for the farm. What was once focused on commercial coffee has gradually transitioned towards specialty production, opening the door to improved quality, greater value and a more sustainable future for the family.

The journey has required patience, investment and plenty of hard work. Yamile has introduced new varieties and improved the farm's infrastructure, including the construction of a new drying station, with further improvements planned for the future. Her approach is one of continual progress: refining quality, investing in the farm and bringing greater recognition to both their coffee and the San Agustín region.

For Yamile, coffee represents more than a livelihood. It carries the work and determination of the women behind Finca Las Juntas, the history of her family, and the connection to a place she ultimately chose to call home once again.

Therefore Coffee

We want to live in a world where coffee producers, their families and communities can thrive.

Unfortunately, the history of coffee production is intertwined with that of colonialism and slavery. Even today it is not uncommon for producers and workers to be faced with poverty, food scarcity, and child labour. Modern slavery still exists within the coffee producing industry.

Coffee is traditionally sold at a price that has nothing to do with farmer's living expenses (Read: C Price) and is often below the cost of production. We don't like the idea of Wall Street influencing how much our producers get paid on a given day. Our sourcing partners always pay premium prices based on cost of production and quality; not the market price.
