The story of Santa Catarina is one of family, resilience and a growing commitment to quality.

The farm’s coffee journey began in 1983, when Sebastião Alexandre’s father, Benedito Faustino da Silva, planted the family’s first coffee trees alongside his wife, Rosa, and their eldest son. The early years were challenging. Quality was difficult to achieve and, soon after the first plantings, a severe frost destroyed much of the crop.

Rather than give up, the family looked to higher ground and replanted at a greater elevation. Over time, coffee became a shared family passion, passed from one generation to the next.

Today, the family continues to refine its approach, with a stronger focus on soil health, plant care and post-harvest quality. Soil analysis and considered pruning practices have become part of their farm management, while new processing techniques and raised drying beds are helping them gain greater control over the final cup.

The result is a coffee shaped by decades of experience, a willingness to adapt and a family determined to keep improving with every harvest.
