Ledy Moncayo, Filter - Colombia

Ledy Moncayo farms in the hills of Palestina, Huila, alongside her husband, Luis Edgar, and their two children, Jairo and Stiven. The farm was originally owned by Luis Edgar's father, but since 2019, Ledy has taken the lead in production, steadily building her knowledge through workshops, experimentation and hands-on experience.

Today, coffee is very much a family project. The farm is managed almost entirely by the family, with additional workers brought in during harvest. Together, they have refined their fermentation, drying and storage practices while expanding the farm's varieties beyond Caturra to include Pink Bourbon and Bourbon Aji.

Their commitment to learning and improving with each harvest has been reflected in the quality of their coffee. In 2022, the family submitted their coffee to the Cup of Excellence for the first time, an important milestone and recognition of the progress they've made.

For Ledy and her family, coffee is more than a livelihood. It's something they're building together, one harvest at a time.

Unfortunately, the history of coffee production is intertwined with that of colonialism and slavery. Even today it is not uncommon for producers and workers to be faced with poverty, food scarcity, and child labour. Modern slavery still exists within the coffee producing industry.

Coffee is traditionally sold at a price that has nothing to do with farmer's living expenses (Read: C Price) and is often below the cost of production. We don't like the idea of Wall Street influencing how much our producers get paid on a given day. Our sourcing partners always pay premium prices based on cost of production and quality; not the market price.

Therefore Coffee
