Coffee has been part of Fabio Isidro Artunduaga's life from the very beginning. Raised in the coffee-growing community of Palmar del Criollo, he grew up working alongside his family before establishing Finca La Esperanza, where he now produces specialty coffee with his wife, Cielo.

For more than 18 years, the couple has dedicated themselves to producing coffees that reflect both the character of Huila and their unwavering commitment to quality. Every stage of production, from cultivation through to post-harvest processing, is managed with care and attention to detail.

What stands out most about Fabio is his perseverance. Despite facing challenges that nearly led him to abandon specialty coffee, he chose instead to continue refining his craft. That resilience is reflected in every harvest.

At La Esperanza, coffee is grown with a long-term view. The farm is managed using environmentally conscious practices, avoiding herbicides wherever possible and embracing a low-intervention approach that prioritises soil health and biodiversity.

The result is a coffee that speaks not only of its origin, but of the patience, care and quiet dedication behind its production, beautifully balanced expression of Huila, crafted by a producer who has spent a lifetime perfecting his craft.

Unfortunately, the history of coffee production is intertwined with that of colonialism and slavery. Even today it is not uncommon for producers and workers to be faced with poverty, food scarcity, and child labour. Modern slavery still exists within the coffee producing industry.

Coffee is traditionally sold at a price that has nothing to do with farmer's living expenses (Read: C Price) and is often below the cost of production. We don't like the idea of Wall Street influencing how much our producers get paid on a given day. Our sourcing partners always pay premium prices based on cost of production and quality; not the market price.
