Description
This coffee comes from the Telila washing station in Jimma, Ethiopia, with the fruit grown in the Yukro kebele. It is produced by Mike Mamo, the owner and manager of the Telila washing station, who buys coffee cherries from smallholder farmers in the Yukro village.
At Telila, lots are carefully separated according to their growing locations, and each lot is sold under its geographical designation. Most cherries processed at Telila are Serto 74112 or Gibirinna 74110 varieties, both developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in the 1970s for their disease resistance.
While there are various 'Yukro' coffees available, tracing their origins to specific farms or washing stations can be challenging. However, connecting with Mike through import partners, Osito, provides much greater transparency.
Yukro represents the best of western Ethiopian coffees. It offers a crisp, citrus-forward cup profile, tasting of candied Meyer lemon, lifted with floral aromatics of jasmine and orange blossom.
