Lalesa, Anaerobic Natural - Ethiopia

Eptah Speciality Coffee was founded by Wubit Bekele, an Ethiopian Q-grader who spent years working with one of the country’s largest coffee exporters before establishing her own business. In an industry traditionally dominated by men, Wubit has built Eptah around supporting women coffee farmers and strengthening their opportunities within the supply chain. 

In 2023, Eptah acquired the Lalesa washing station, working with local smallholders who deliver their ripe cherries directly and are paid on the spot.

Beyond coffee, Eptah invests in the wider community through initiatives focused on education, financial literacy, access to finance and leadership development for women. Its Ama Commitment scheme also directs a portion of coffee sales towards community projects for children. Recent support has included renovating a local daycare established near Lalesa in 2023.

Ripe whole cherries are fermented in plastic barrels under shade for seven days, then carefully dried on raised beds for 13–18 days. Once dried, the coffee is stored at the washing station before being transported to Addis Ababa for milling and export preparation.

This coffee stands out for its juicy plum character, delicate rose florals and creamy milk chocolate finish. It’s an inviting, beautifully balanced cup.
