Hacienda Carmona, Washed - Guatemala

Coffee has been cultivated at Hacienda Carmona since the 1800s, with some of the original Typica and Bourbon trees still growing on the estate today. The farm has been part of the Zelaya family for more than a century, beginning with its purchase by family patriarch Luis Pedro Aguirre in 1910.

Today, fourth-generation producer Ricardo Zelaya manages the estate alongside his brother, Luis Pedro, continuing a family tradition built around quality, careful farming and long-term stewardship of the land.

Ripe cherries are selectively hand-picked and delivered to the farm’s on-site wet mill, where they are pulped and fermented overnight in tiled tanks. The coffee is then thoroughly washed and dried on raised patios before resting in parchment prior to export.

There is something particularly appealing about a coffee with this level of restraint. In the cup, expect nectarine, Pink Lady apple and caramel, balanced by elegant florals and a bright, refined citrus acidity. Clean, precise and quietly complex, this is a coffee that rewards attention without demanding it.
