Description

San Agustin, where a pre-Colombian civilization once thrived in the mountains at the start of the Magdalena River, is the home of the Imbachi family. Before becoming a coffee producer, Carlos Imbachi worked as a treasure hunter, searching for artifacts left by the indigenous communities of San Agustin, and selling them to collectors. With the proceeds from his endeavours, he built a house in the vereda of La Argentina for his family. It was there that he began cultivating coffee and other farm products.

Carlos has become an exceptional specialty coffee producer receiving the 2009 Coffee of the Year by the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America).
Over the past few years, Carlos has made several changes and improvements to his farm. Around 2018, he constructed new drying areas with beds to manage the increasing volume of production. In 2023, he replaced the pulper and upgraded the plastic covers for the drying areas.

Unfortunately, the history of coffee production is intertwined with that of colonialism and slavery. Even today it is not uncommon for producers and workers to be faced with poverty, food scarcity, and child labour. Modern slavery still exists within the coffee producing industry.

Coffee is traditionally sold at a price that has nothing to do with farmer's living expenses (Read: C Price) and is often below the cost of production. We don't like the idea of Wall Street influencing how much our producers get paid on a given day. Our sourcing partners always pay premium prices based on cost of production and quality; not the market price.
