Deciding to enter the coffee business with nothing other than a love for the product and some tech know how may seem foolish especially when the specialty coffee e-retailing business is so competitive. Well we wanted to try to make it better – better for consumers, better for roasters, better for the environment. We are not revolutionising the coffee industry but making some small changes that will benefit all. Our number one priority and why we decided to build this site in the first place – the consumer experience. We were frustrated during covid that there was no online coffee service that aggregated product so as consumers we could do all our coffee shopping in one spot. We wanted variety, ethical coffee and a user interface that made it easy and quick to find what we were looking for. We also wanted fresh coffee. Next came the roasters, integral to the offering and all with a shared ethos of selling traceable coffee, with a goal of supporting the growers who care about their farming practices, innovation and the environment. We also wanted our roasters to feel part of our broader family so being like-minded was important. Last but certainly not least was better for the environment. This comes in many forms – packaging being recyclable or compostable, measuring ones carbon footprint, undergoing B corp or equivalent certification. We have also implemented drop shipping with our roasters so we remove a link in the supply chain. This has a positive impact to the environment but also ensures that the coffee being delivered to the customer is the freshest is can be.
Like I said, not revolutionary but hopefully impactful for all involved in this daily ritual.
